A Career for Hamburg is a collection of approximately 80 articles and words of greeting by prominent Hamburg personalities from the worlds of politics, business, science, culture and sports.
Ole von Beust, Klaus Asche, Thomas Straubhaar, Uwe Seeler, Thomas Mirow, Karin von Welck, Michael Göring, Jörg Dräger, Wolfgang Peiner and Helge Adolphsen are only a few of the authors who honor Dreyer's commitment and achievements on behalf of this Hanseatic city and the Hamburger Sparkasse savings bank ("Haspa") as well as providing a glimpse of the city's future. The book is not only an homage to one of "the most successful German bank managers" (FAZ) but also a portrait of Dreyer's personality in all its facets. At the same time, the book provides an interim assessment of the current situation of Hamburg as a business location, as seen from a variety of perspectives. It also shows what future challenges Hamburg will be facing in an era characterized by globalization and the knowledge society.
