What's happening to individual identity in the digital age? That was the question posed by the Bundesdruckerei on the occasion of its 125th anniversary in 2004.
The Bundesdruckerei has long outgrown its original identity as Germany's state printing office and today is an internationally operating industrial group specializing in sophisticated security technology. To mark its 125th anniversary, it published a book dealing with timely issues such as the biometric identity card and the decoding of the genome. Prominent artists, scientists, politicians and authors contributed articles to the book, and two master classes at the Berlin University of the Arts provided works of art dealing with related themes. The book was printed using an offset process with drip-off lacquering, creating a unique combination of glossy and matte effects.
